Tramadol and drug interactions

Taking Tramadol when already on MAO inhibitors may cause a serious or fatal drug  interaction. It is recommended not to take MAO inhibitors during treatment with this medication. MAO inhibitors like linezolid, isocarboxazid, moclobemide, phenelzine, methylene blue, rasagiline, procarbazine, tranylcypromine, safinamide, selegiline. It is also be avoided to take most MAO inhibitors for two weeks before treatment while taking Tramadol.

When taking this medication while you are also taking other drugs that increase serotonin, the risk of serotonin toxicity or syndrome increases.

Other medications like azole antifungals (such as itraconazole), HIV drugs (such as ritonavir), quinidine, rifamycins (such as rifampin), macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin, drugs used to treat seizures (such as carbamazepine) can affect the removal of this medication from your body and may affect how this drug works.

Some products like pain medications including mixed opioid agonist-antagonists such as nalbuphine, pentazocine, butorphanol, and naltrexone may interact with Tramadol.

Tramadol overdose- Is it dangerous?
